Deschutes County 4-H

What Deschutes County 4-H Is About

4-H is a youth development program that promotes positive youth development, through intentional programming, utilizing "tools" that interest youth. The wide varieties of project areas are the "tools" which 4-H uses to accomplish its objectives. By providing this quality youth development experience, research proves members gain five important outcomes: competence, confidence, connection, character, and compassion.

4-H members "learn by doing." Young people, with guidance from volunteer leaders, learn essential life and technical skills and how to live with people and serve their community and country by practicing these skills in real-life situations. 4-H members learn by taking part in: project work, record keeping, exhibits, presentations, county contests, Idea Fair, and High Desert Leadership Retreat.

Cloverbud 4-H Program (5-8 year olds)

The Cloverbud program is designed to be an exploration into 4-H. This non-competitive program allows younger youth to try different project areas while developing their interest and imagination. Cloverbud youth may join a club designed specifically for their age group that focuses on exploring new interest or join a project specific club and participate in age appropriate activities.
