There are a number of college scholarships offered at the state level. Applications for this year's scholarships are due in the Deschutes County Extension Office by February 12th, 2010. The state site lists the application deadline as March 1st, but each application must be reviewed and approved by the local 4-H Agent before they cna be sent on to the state, so please be sure they are in our office by 5 pm on Februaary 12th!
For all of these scholarships you will need a state scholarship application form.
State Scholarships Available for Any Accredited College or University
Babe Coe Memorial Scholarship One $1000 scholarship. Applicant must be from Crook, Deschutes, Grant, Jefferson or Wasco County. Requires Oregon 4-H Financial Need Form. CHS Foundation Scholarship One $1000 scholarship. Duane P. Johnson 4-H Scholarship One $500 scholarship. Attendance at any 4-year college or university. O.M. Plummer Scholarship One $600 (approximate) scholarship. Essay should include information about participating in beef, sheep, swine and/or livestock judging. Jeanne Leeson Memorial 4-H Scholarship One $1000 scholarship.
Scholarships Available for Attendance at Oregon State University
Martha MacGregor 4-H Scholarship One $4500 Scholarship. Requires attendance at OSU. Klein-Youngberg Family 4-H Scholarship Three $1250 scholarships. Requires attendance at OSU. Must have been in 4-H for at least five years Robert M. Ohling Memorial 4-H Scholarship One $1800 Scholarship. Requires attendance at OSU. Oregon 4-H Foundation Memorial 4-H Scholarship One $1000 Scholarship. Requires attendance at OSU. Kate Thiess Mamorial 4-H Scholarship One $1000 Scholarship. Requires attendance at OSU. Ted and Betty Dietz Memorial 4-H Scholarship One $500 Scholarship. Requires attendance at OSU. Minnick Memorial 4-H Scholarship One $500 Scholarship. Requires attendance at OSU. Preference to applicants with an agricultural background. A. Lois Redman 4-H Scholarship One $500 Scholarship. Requires attendance at OSU. Preference given to candidates majoring in the College of Health and Human Sciences, Outdoor Education or International Programs. Must have been in Home Economics 4-H project area for at least three years.
Scholarships Available for Former 4-H Members Who are Currently Attending Oregon State University
Judith K. Hofer Scholarship One $1500 scholarship to female OSU student currently majoring in Merchandising Management. Must have been in Oregon 4-H program for at least five years. 2009 State Fair 4-H Scholarship Summary
The following Scholarships are available to Oregon 4-H members who are seniors in high school and have been active in County and/or State Fair. Applications are due on the county Extension off ice February 12th and must be signed by county Extension 4-H agent.
Oregon State Parks and Fair 4-H Scholarships Two $1000 scholarships, and one $500 Scholarship. Must have exhibited at Oregon State Fair for at least two years. Oregon Fairs Foundation 4-H Scholarship Two $1000 scholarships. Must have exhibited at County Fair for at least two years. Petralli Family Scholarship One $1000 scholarship. Must have exhibited at County Fair for at least two years.
4-H Fair Scholarship Application Guidelines Submit all the information below in the order listed by hard copy. No electronic applications will be accepted. County Extension 4-H agents must sign all applications.
State Fair 4-H Scholarship Application. Include copies of high school transcripts and official SAT scores. One two page essay explaining the benefits of fair participation for youth and why such opportunities should continue in the future. Also outline your educational and career plans. Essay should be single-sided pages, double spaced, in 12 point Times Roman Font with one inch margins. A fair leadership summary and 4-H fair exhibit summary at pre-fair, county fair and state fair (1 page maximum each form). Use the official Summary forms which are included with the application. Only the official Scholarship Reference Form (found in the State Fair 4-H Scholarship Application) will be accepted. Recommendations from your County 4-H Extension Agent, program assistant, leader, fair superintendent or others familiar with your 4-H work are desirable. References from family members are not suitable. References may be printed and completed by hand. Forms should be returned to you in a sealed envelope.
